Key factors should be considered when hiring a General Contractor or Construction Manager

Financial Stability

Make sure you thoroughly review bank references, suppliers and sub contractor histories. If not supplied to you in a proposal, ask for this information before making your decision.

  Client Comments
Try to gain a good overall picture of the GC or CM by requesting contact with past clients, business associates and even sub contractors. Establishing a performance track record can ensure peace-of-mind and satisfaction throughout the process.

  Professionalism
Inquire about professional organization memberships and community involvement. Staying current in construction trends and supporting the local community are signs of a good organization.
Insurance Coverage
Adequate coverage for your project is the key here. Coverages that are important include: General Liability, Bonding Capacity, Workers Compensation and Builder's Risk. Making sure you CM, GC and sub contractors are properly insured is your security net.

  Project Portfolio
Choose a well-rounded company that has diverse experience in many different project types. It can also be helpful if they've dealt with similar projects to yours. Another sign of success is repeat business. This establishes trust and performance standards that you can count on.
